Last week I was invited to join ‘Dancing CEO’S’, a charity fundraiser here in Brisbane on Friday 15 April 2016. I saw the word ‘Dancing’ and said an excited ‘YES!’ before I had a chance to really understand what I was getting myself in for! There has been a last minute ‘scratching’ from the line up and someone was needed to fill the spot and that person is me! Which is great- save that I am around 4 months behind in both rehearsals and fundraising- so this little duck has started ‘hustling’! Fast!
And I need your support!
Anyone who knows me, knows I am always up for a spot of dancing! And I have never been afraid of making a fool of myself in the name of charity. But perhaps what makes this event so important to me is that all money raised will go to further the work of the Women’s Legal Service Qld (WLSQ).
I am a Divorce Lawyer and so know too well the challenges faced by families during divorce and separation. Many of the women seeking the assistance of the Women’s Legal Service are experiencing separation and divorce. And many of those women are also very vulnerable as a result of domestic violence.
Last year WLSQ helped 3,700 Queensland women and their children, however, approximately 19,000 calls went unanswered. All funds raised by Dancing CEOs 2016 will help WLSQ to implement a new phone help-line which will allow the service to answer more calls from women who need a helping hand.
So how can you help me?
There are 4 ways you can give me a hand!
1. You can make a Donation-
A $35 donation supports WLS to help a woman and her children for one month.
A $60 donation gives an hour of free legal help with her domestic violence or family law matter.
A $420 donation supports WLS to help a woman and her children for a year.
Aside from dancing poorly on the night, my aim is to raise much needed funds for The Women’s Legal Service who provide wonderful assistance to women and children often during divorce and separation. A target of $10,000 has been set and to reach it I need your help!
In the name of Charity, I am putting her pride aside to attempt to captivate and entertain you – my supporters- via ‘Dance Cam’.
The ‘dance cam’ is simple- for every donation made via Clarissa’s everyday hero page you can leave her a message – stating the song, location or dance move you would like to see me attempt to bust out (let’s keep it PG folks!) All attempts will be posted on the Happy Family Lawyer facebook page each week (so you can all enjoy a laugh).
Any amount you can spare will make a difference to the lives of others.
You can make a Donation Here.
2. You can buy a ticket and support me dancing at City Hall-
Come and join in my humiliation (or hopeful entertainment!) at the Dancing CEO’S Black tie, Gala event at Brisbane City Hall on Friday 18 April 2016. This event was voted one of the top events in Brisbane by the Sunday Mail in 2015 and is night not to be missed! And if nothing else, I would love a few friendly faces in the audience!
You can buy a ticket here.
3. You can come along to one of my upcoming fundraising events or donate a prize for a raffle-
Who doesn’t love a good Trivia Night! Join me at 6pm on Friday 8 April 2016 for an evening of fun trivia, bad dancing and great giveaways!
Tickets are available here or you can help by donating to our raffles on the night!
4. You can send me a message of support
Sending me your support is really all that I need! I love a good dance, but the idea of a ‘dance solo’ at nearly 40 years of age in front of 500 people is sending shivers up my spine! So any kind emails, letters or messages saying ‘Good Luck” or “Don’t break a leg” will be much appreciated!
And if you would like to have a laugh, you can enjoy my dance attempts here (with the help of my daughter, London!)
Kind regards,
Clarissa Rayward,
The Happy Family Lawyer
